Ceuta is a Spanish enclave on the northern tip of the Morrocan coast, located on the Strait of Gibraltar. The port of Ceuta is built around a fine natural harbor and its port is far busier than most of the ports of mainland Spain. As the port of Ceuta is only an hour away from Algeciras by ferry from Spain it provides a shorter route to Spain than from Tangiers (Marocco) to Algeciras. Until 1986 Ceuta was a free port but it is now part of the European Union with a low-taxes system inside the European Monetary System.
