About Sardinia
Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and is a part of Italy. It has a population of nearly 1,700,000 and covers an area of just over 24,000 square kilometres. The Sardinian capital city is Cagliari, located in the south of the island.
There are regular services from the Italian mainland ports of Civitavecchia (for Rome), Piombino (Livorno) and Genoa. There are also inter-island services linking Cagliari with Palermo in Sicily and Porto Torres in the north-west of Sardinia with Ajaccio on the neighbouring French island of Corsica. Porto Torres also has a ferry connection with Barcelona.
Most ferries serving Sardinia carry a combination of both tourist and freight traffic.
