Vans - Do I need to travel as freight?
With Northlink, all private use vans exceeding 3.5 tons must be booked as freight. If the vehicle is being used for commercial purposes you must book as freight, regardless of the van type. NorthLink Ferries sails daily from Aberdeen to Lerwick with frequent calls at Kirkwall and from Scrabster on the north coast of Scotland to Stromness in Orkney.The freight service is fully integrated with the passenger service, the fleet comprising three passenger vessels and two dedicated freight vessels. The freight vessels can deal with heavy and outsized traffic, livestock and hazardous cargoes.
