About Denmark
Located at the entrance to the Baltic Sea, Denmark comprises the peninsular of Jutland, several main islands plus many hundreds of smaller islands. She shares a land border only with Germany, although the Oresund Bridge, completed in 1999, now links Ddenmark with Sweden. Denmark covers an area of just over 43,000 square kilometres and has a population estimated to be just over 5,500,000. The capital city is Copenhagen, located not on the Danish mainland but principally on Zealand, the largest of Denmark's islands.
Denmark is connected to the UK with regular ferry services to Esjberg from the east coast ports of Harwich and Killingholme. As the southern-most Scandinavian country, Denmark is connected by many ferry services with Norway and Sweden. There are also frequent services covering the short distance between Puttgarden (Germany) & Rodby and from Rostock to Gedser. Ferries also operate from Koge to Ronne on the Danish island of Bornholm. These ferries carry a combination of both tourist and freight traffic.
