About Poland
Indpendent since January 1990, Poland is home to over 36,000,000 inhabitants. With an area of 312,700 square kilometres Poland is bordered by Germany to the west, the Czech Republic and Slovakia to the south, Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania to the east and by the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad Oblast to the north.
Also to the north is Poland's coastline bordering the Baltic Sea. The principal port is Gdynia, close to the shipyards of Gdańsk.
From Gdynia Stena Line operates a service to Karlskrona, whilst Unity Line operates services between Świnoujście and the Swedish ports of Ystad & Trelleborg. These ferries carry a combination of both tourist and freight traffic.
